Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Recovery Cooperative of Muskegon to create an environment in which services provided by peers foster choice and opportunities that lead to increased self-esteem and personal autonomy.
About Us
The Recovery Cooperative of Muskegon is an autonomous association of persons with mental distress united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly-owned and democratically controlled enterprise.
The Recovery Cooperative of Muskegon is based on the values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, social equality, and peer support. The Coop is:
- Open to all persons able to use the services and willing to accept the responsibilities of membership, without gender, social, racial, political, or religious discrimination.
- Owned and operated by members, who actively participate in setting their policies and making decisions. Men and women serving as elected representatives and/or employees are accountable to the membership.
- Economically democratic with members in the control of capital of the Cooperative. Members allocate surpluses for any or all of the following purposes: developing the Cooperative, benefiting members in proportion to their transactions with the Cooperative, and supporting other activities approved by the membership.
- An autonomous, self-help organization controlled by members. When entering into agreements with other organizations, including governments, or raising capital from external sources, it will do so on the terms that ensure democratic control by their members and maintain their cooperative autonomy.
The Recovery Cooperative of Muskegon provides educatiobn and training for members, elected representatives, managers, and employees so they can contribute effectively to the development of the Coop. It will inform the general public about the nature and benefit of peer support, collaboration, and integration of people with mental disabilities.
While focusing on member needs the Recovery Cooperative of Muskegon works for the sustainable development of the mental health community through services designed and delivered by members to implement the purpose of the organizatiobn.
